ΑΡΧΙΜΗΔΗΣ Κέντρο Καινοτομίας και Επιχειρηματικότητας

The Technology Transfer and Innovation Unit “Archimedes” of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) invites interested parties to submit an Expression of Interest application for their participation in the Proof of Concept initiative of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, entitled EPiC (Entrepreneurial Projects for Innovation & Commercialization) for the year 2026.
The initiative is implemented within the framework of the Subproject “NKUA Technology Transfer Office / ARCHIMEDES” of the project “Technology Bridge Network” (OPS Code 6018942), which has been incorporated into the “COMPETITIVENESS” Programme and is co-funded by the European Union. The initiative is addressed exclusively to research groups or individual researchers of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), inviting them to submit proposals for the maturation of research results with commercial potential and prospects for market exploitation.
Proposals may be submitted exclusively by faculty members (DEP), Laboratory Teaching Staff (EDIP), Special Technical Laboratory Staff (ETEP), or researchers employed by NKUA. Each participant is entitled to participate in only one Proposal.
The selected research ideas will receive financial support of up to twenty thousand euros (€20,000). This funding will cover exclusively expenses related to equipment, software, consumables, and third-party research services for the technological and commercial maturation of the solution and/or testing in a real environment and/or market and end-user validation.
Expenses related to permanent or temporary personnel salaries, travel, publications/conferences, intellectual property protection/registration, and business plan development for the establishment of a spin-off company are not eligible.
The maximum implementation period of the initiative will be up to 12 months.
The total available budget for the initiative for the year 2026 amounts to €40,000.
Objective of the PoC Initiative
The objective of the initiative is to support the maturation of research results with commercial potential through funding, mentoring, and networking opportunities aimed at implementing activities and achieving outcomes such as further technological development, validation of the effectiveness of the idea, or its transformation into a final product through experimental testing, prototype development, and related activities.
The initiative also supports the conduct of research required for the implementation of the above activities and for addressing any challenges arising from them, ensuring sustainability, defining technical parameters, resolving technical or commercialization-related issues, and evaluating potential end users of the emerging innovation in order to explore commercial opportunities and market potential.
